An analysis of problem solving ability in linear equation systems with two variables

Abstract: Problem-solving is one of the mathematical abilities that students must possess. This study aims to analyze and describe students’ problem-solving abilities in the linear equation systems with two variables as consideration for improving the quality of learning. This type of research is descriptive qualitative. The subjects of this study were 20 tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Comal. They were taken by using purposive sampling method. This research variable is an indicator of problem-solving ability that … Show more

“…The assessment aspects of problem-solving skills developed based on these indicators: analyzing the phenomena in the learning media, compiling follow-ups related to scientific phenomena, realizing the implementation following scientific principles, describing the scientific phenomena based on the facts, reporting the observation results, discussing the suitability of scientific phenomena with facts, finding scientific references related to the phenomena, collaborating the results of scientific references with the results of independent analysis, publishing the results of analysis through scientific reference media. Indicators of problem-solving skills are: (1) understanding the problem; (2) planning the solution; (3) solving the problem according to the plan; (4) rechecking the results obtained (Ulya et al, 2014;Dewi & Septa, 2019;Mustofa & Slamet, 2020).…”

“…Doing creative thinking needs to be supported by knowledge possessed by developing good knowledge (Febrianti et al, 2016). The role of mathematics in education is very important, but the fact is that mathematics is considered a difficult subject for students, which results in low student achievement (Mustofa et al, 2020).…”

“…Guiar en el aprendizaje contextual dirige a los escolares a ser capaces de resolver problemas matemáticos, por lo que se aguarda que las habilidades matemáticas del educando aumenten con el aumento de las destrezas en la RP del estudiantado. Mustofa et al (2020), certifica que la RP es un proceso que permite superar las dificultades encontradas para alcanzar los objetivos previstos. La RP son las acciones y/o métodos utilizados por los alumnos para comprender y resolver situaciones problemáticas.…”
