An Analysis of Urbanisation Dynamics with the Use of the Fuzzy Set Theory—A Case Study of the City of Olsztyn

Abstract: Quantitative, qualitative and structural changes in land use that occur in a given location over time are a manifestation and a measure of urban development. Urbanisation is a process of spatial diffusion that spreads from the urban core to peripheral areas. Urban development is linked with human activities in a specific location and in a given period of time. In the context of spatial management, urbanisation is a process where less intensive land-use types are replaced by more intensive forms of land use. Th… Show more

“…The questionnaire consisted of a comparison matrix in which respondents identified the intensity of anthropogenic elements on a particular site, described by a specific land use ("←", "O", or "↑" for which the values were 2-1-0, respectively). The totals of values derived from all surveys were averaged and then used to calculate a value denoting the proportion of urban land-use types (wp) (Biłozor et al, 2020).…”

“…Fuzzy sets have been used to analyse the ruralurban continuum by identifying and defining landuse types in the rural-urban fringe (usually a large city) (Biłozor et al, 2020). In this method, the degree of membership of land-use types in a set of urban functions was evaluated, and the spatial range of urban land-use types was determined (Biłozor et al, 2019).…”

“…This phenomenon is also visible in the area of property valuation methodology. It seems that as never before the valuation procedures has chance to be extended by the alternative solutions based on the modern technology ( Biłozor et al, 2020 ; d’Amato and Renigier-Bilozor, 2017 ; Renigier-Biłozor et al, 2019b ; Helling, 2019 ; Osorno-Covarrubias et al, 2015 ). Standard activities of property valuers performed at stages of the valuation procedure may (and during a pandemic should be) replaced or supplemented by modern technologies as part of the hybrid approach.…”

“…The specificity of land-use conflict has to be explored to expand our understanding of the scope and potential consequences of such conflicts, which could play a key role in rational and sustainable management of space [46][47][48].…”
