An Annotated Check-List of Orthoptera of Tuva and Adjacent Regions. Part 3. Subroder Caelifera (Acrididae: Gomphocerinae: Gomphocerini; Locustinae)

Abstract: A total of 30 species belonging to the family Acrididae (the tribe Gomphocerini from the subfamily Gomphocerinae, and the subfamily Locustinae = Oedipodinae), are known as occurring in Tuva. Two taxa are recorded from the region for the first time, namely Chorthippus dorsatus orientalis Bey-Bienko and Sphingonotus nebulosus (Fischer de Waldheim). At least 6 species and a subspecies are known from the adjacent areas and listed as probably occurring in the region. Distribution patterns and taxonomic composition … Show more

“…He noted very significant variability of individuals of O. decorus from different parts of its range. Some orthopterists [4,21,57,58] follow this proposal, and our data support this point of view [59]. However, some others [60] do not.…”

“…Later, Schmid et al [63] also described evident similarity between O. decorus decorus from Europe and O. decorus asiaticus. That is why we prefer to follow the most comprehensive revision of the genus [3,59].…”

“…Later, in the second half of the 20th century and in the beginning of the 21st century, the faunas of some part of the Eurasian steppes were catalogued and analyzed (several European steppe regions [40][41][42][43], Kazakhstan [44][45][46], Tuva (in the central part of the mountains of South Siberia) [47][48][49], Mongolia [50][51][52], and North China [53][54][55][56][57]). M. G. Sergeev [8,10,11] published lists of Orthoptera for main biographical regions of the Asian steppes.…”

“…This means, nowadays, we have more comprehensive data on orthopteran distribution and diversity in the Eurasian steppes. However, some unsolved taxonomical and phylogenetic problems remain unclear despite some opportunities of an acoustic analysis and molecular approaches (e.g., with the members of the genus Glyptobothrus Chopard) (see [11,[47][48][49]59]. Additionally, of course, there are new taxa that remain to be found and described, especially in the eastern part of the steppes.…”
