“…Groupers (Serranidae, Epinephelinae) harbour a very rich fauna of gill monogeneans, mostly diplectanids (Justine, 2010;Justine et al, 2010). Numbers of monogenean species range from nine to 13 per fish species, and most diplectanids are strictly host speciesspecific (Justine, 2007a;Justine & Sigura, 2007;Sigura & Justine, 2008).…”

“…This family of fishes has been relatively well sampled in New Caledonian waters, with more than 600 specimens examined (Justine et al, 2010, and subsequent studies). Fifty specimens of Plectropomus leopardus were examined and 20 species of parasites were recorded from them (Boxshall et al, 2008;Bray & Justine, 2007;Justine et al, 2010;Justine & Euzet, 2006). These figures give an idea of the likely rarity of H. plectropomi; however, the paucity of infected hosts is compensated for by the high intensity of infection, with the single infected specimen examined containing several hundred thousand eggs.…”

“…This attempt, has also been made to estimate the extent of our current knowledge in comparison to a total, exhaustive inventory of the monogenean fauna. Diseases borned by the parasite are the most important factor which threatened the fishery industry worldwide [5] and India is not exception to this. Monogenean parasites infect freshwater fishes are one of the major group of parasites that often cause diseases worldwide [6] .…”
