The carbon was converted to CO2 by the wetcarbon combustion method of Van Slyke, Folch, Plazin, and Weisiger (23,24), collected in a reservoir, and absorbed into phenethylamine by a method devised by the authors (25); the 14C was measured in a liquid scintillation counter with a solution of 0.3% diphenyloxazole in toluene containing the phenethylamine and methanol.
