An Approach for Ranking of Hospitals Based on Waste Management Practices by Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) Methodology

Abstract: In this study, the analytical hierarchy process (AHP) technique has been used to assess waste management practices of different hospitals in the city of Prayagraj (India). Based on AHP analysis, hospital 3 was ranked as the most promising sustainability hospital with a weight value of 0.2788 with strict abidance to Bio-medical waste management (amendment), 2018 rules and regulations. Regular monitoring is needed to improve the waste management in hospitals substantially, and hospital 6 is ranked lowest among t… Show more

“…This transformation will affect the structure and the strategies of the decision-making process (Traneva and Tranev, 2022;Saaty, 2016). Many researchers have used the AHP for decision-making in numerous sectors, i.e., economic issues, policy formulation, and urban management, prioritizing investments in the chemical industry, formulating urban water supply systems, selecting material suppliers, investigating environmental impact, and environmental impacts of manufacturing (Rawal, 2021). However, Yuen (2022) argued that the AHP might comprise misapplications; thus, it is necessary to use the paired interval scale when assessing pairwise comparisons when choosing competitive alternatives in decision-making.…”

“…Zhang et al, 2006;Arikan, 2013). After decades of development, the discipline system of "Operations Research" has been relatively perfect and involves many mathematical knowledge points, such as AHP (Rawal & Nekram, 2021), 0-1 integer programming (Russell Impagliazzo et al, 2014), multi-objective programming (Taghavi et al, 2021). Among them, different methods have different characteristics in their applications.…”

“…Mardani et al [ 57 ] evaluated the achievements of hospitals in Tehran, Iran, in medical waste management using fuzzy AHP. Rawal [ 58 ] measured hospitals' performance in Prayagraj, India, based on waste management practices using the AHP method. Unlike all these studies, Haseli and Ghoushchi [ 59 ] evaluated the best criteria to designate the plant's location to be installed in waste disposal with the fuzzy base criteria method for Tabriz, Iran.…”
