An approach to computing direction relations between separated object groups

Abstract: Abstract. Direction relations between object groups play an important role in qualitative spatial reasoning, spatial computation and spatial recognition. However, none of existing models can be used to compute direction relations between object groups. To fill this gap, an approach to computing direction relations between separated object groups is proposed in this paper, which is theoretically based on gestalt principles and the idea of multi-directions. The approach firstly triangulates the two object groups… Show more

“…Several scholars have proposed the models that specifically perform the computation of direction relationships involving object groups (Lu et al, 2018;Yan et al, 2006Yan et al, , 2013. These models aim to enhance the existing approaches to compute direction relationships from the perspective of object groups.…”

“…These models aim to enhance the existing approaches to compute direction relationships from the perspective of object groups. For instance, one model focuses on providing a quantitative description model for direction relationships based on direction groups (Yan et al., 2006), whereas another explores the computation of direction relationships between separate object groups (Yan et al., 2013). Additionally, a model is dedicated to the spatial direction relationships between object groups (Lu et al., 2018).…”

“…Direction relationships between object groups play an important role in spatial computation and spatial recognition. A number of models for the description and computation of direction relations have been proposed, including the cone-based model [41], the 2-D projection model [42], the direction-relation matrix model [43], the statistical weighting orientation [44], and the Voronoi-based model [45].…”
