Artificial intelligence (AI) represents the capacity of machines/ software to perform tasks that are mostly done with human intelligence. AI is influencing every domain from engineering to healthcare and beyond. This chapter delves into the manifold applications of AI in health sciences, including its role in forensic science. AI introduces novel challenges and opportunities, shedding light on the advantages and pitfalls inherent in leveraging AI methodologies for criminal investigations. In comparison to conventional forensic methodologies, AI deploys a diverse array of algorithms aimed at delivering precise and expedient outcomes in tasks like age estimation, sex determination, assessment of the development of teeth, digital evidence analysis, toxicological analysis, forensic entomology and determination of the post-mortem interval (PMI).
