An Assessment of the Efficiency and Emissions of a Pellet Boiler Combusting Multiple Pellet Types

Abstract: With sustainable energy being the key to reaching climate neutrality, the utilization of non-wooden biomass is a necessity. This article compares the emissions and efficiency of combusting a number of types of agrobiomass and wood pellets. A comparison was made on a moving grate pellet burner mounted in a boiler, where flue gas had a vertical flow via two pass heat exchangers with turbulization elements. Tests were conducted on wood pellets (ENPlus), miscanthus straw pellets, sunflower husk pellets, and corn s… Show more

“…As a promising energy plant, the current research on giant silvergrass mainly focuses on assessing biomass potential, and the economic and environmental benefits based on the statistical data [36,[42][43][44][45]. There are only a few studies working on the potential land resources for growing giant silvergrass.…”

“…The tests aimed at determining the physicochemical parameters of the types of wood under analysis were carried out in a laboratory located at the Centre for Sustainable Development and Energy Conservation at the Faculty of Geology, Geophysics and Environmental Protection of the AGH University of Science and Technology (WGGiO Ś AGH) in Miękinia. In the centre, there are conducted lectures for students and workshops for people interested in the field of use of solid biofuels and low emission causes and also testing and research to reach real data for it [56][57][58]. Its equipment allows accurate determination of energy parameters of solid fuels.…”

“…Giant miscanthus can be successfully used in the production of compact solid biofuels [29][30][31][32], biogas and bioethanol [33][34][35]. Miscanthus' biomass is used in the production of technical papers, cardboard, packaging plywood or fibers for lining packaging, it can also be a substitute for plastics in the production of packaging [36].…”
