Subjective well-being is defined as how happy and satisfied a person is in his life. To date, among the significant determinants of subjective well-being, national income is considered an important one. However, not much focus has been paid to other determinants of subjective well-being, such as education and information and communication technologies (ICTs). Therefore, this study aims to investigate the short- and long-run impact of education and ICTs on subjective well-being in China over the period 1996–2020. To empirically investigate the nexus, we have employed bounds testing approach to cointegration and error correction modeling. The long-run estimates attached to education are positive and significant, implying that a rise in average years of schooling help increases the level of happiness. However, the long-run estimate attached to the internet is significant and positive in the happiness model. As far as the interaction term between education and the internet is concerned, the estimate is positive and significant. In short-run, the estimates of education, ICTs, and an interaction term between them are also significantly positive.

A Qualitative Study on the Influencing Factors of Public Participation in the Construction of “Waste-Free City” Exploratory Analysis Based on Grounded Theory

As a cellular project of beautiful China and a systematic project of the whole people, the construction of “Waste Free City” cannot be separated from the extensive participation of the public. This research in China’s Henan province “no waste city” construction of public participation as the research object, using the grounded theory, first through open and spindle coding that affecting public participation “no waste city” of the construction of the six main factors: attitude, subjective norm, perceived behavioral control, driving factors and social environment and identity characteristics; Then a model of influencing factors of public participation is constructed through selective coding. The results show that participation attitude, subjective norms and perceived behavior control directly affect the willingness of the public to participate in the construction of “waste-free city”, which are internal psychological factors. Government behavior, group influence, community factor and enterprise factor constitute the external environmental factors that affect public participation. The three categories of publicity and education, reward and punishment mechanism and laws and regulations form the driving factors of public participation in the construction of “waste-free city”, which play a moderating role between internal psychological factors and external environmental factors. At the same time, identity characteristics also directly affect the public participation behavior in the construction of “waste-free city”.

How to mitigate greenhouse gas emission and achieve human development remain major sustainability issues, particularly in China. Empirical research on the effects of climate warming and social change on human health and wellbeing is quite fragmented. This study examines the impact of environmental issues and social changes on health and human wellbeing using a time series data of China from 1991 to 2020. Findings show that environmental issues have a negative impact on health and human wellbeing in long run. While the internet is a form of social change that tends to improve health and human wellbeing in the long run. FDI exerts a positive effect on human health, but it does not improve wellbeing in the long run. In contrast, financial development does not improve human health but it has a significant positive impact on wellbeing in the long run. Our empirical insights have important implications for achieving human wellbeing through the pursuit of environmental sustainability and social change.
