An attempt at a typology of karst lakes in the Połaniec Basin (Małopolska Upland)

Abstract: The main goal of the paper is to attempt a typology of karst lakes in the Połaniec Basin (Małopolska Upland). The typology was conducted on the basis of a dependence analysis of several essential morphometric parameters of lake basins. The considered data comprised 23 lakes with respect to 15 morphometric features. The correlation analysis, mainly of a group of lakes located in single karst sinkholes, revealed that the length and width of basins are strongly correlated. It is also noticeable that basin shape d… Show more

“…Duży Staw, with the three other lakes mentioned above. constitute one hydrological system with an area of around 5 ha (Zieliński 2013;Stachura et al 2018). In turn, the lakes of Łajba and Donica are small with areas less than 1 ha and separated from water cycling in karstic sediments (Zieliński 2010a).…”

“…Lakes located south of the range of the Baltic glaciation, particularly those with a surface area of more than 1 ha, show sporadic occurrence (Choiński 1995). Nonetheless, in the Holy Cross region that for simplicity was herein treated as the equivalent of the Świętokrzystkie Voivodeship (Holy Cross Voivodeship), such lakes can occur more frequently (Zieliński 2010(Zieliński , 2013Stachura et al 2018). Lakes with various genesis are encountered here (aeolian, karst, and fluvial).…”
