An early-stage design optimization for office buildings’ façade providing high-energy performance and daylight

Abstract: The amount of received sunlight and radiant energy could affect the energy consumption in heating, cooling and lighting systems. Utilization of natural daylight in architecture, in addition to fulfilling the inhabitants' mental and physical needs, could greatly reduce fossil fuel consumption. Although higher levels of daylight can be obtained by increasing light transmission, this increased transmission could negatively affect the building's sustainability and thus result in higher energy consumption in turn. … Show more

“…The approximation of the average value of X as the random variable is equal to the sum of the sample size N chosen from the population divided by the sample size. Octopus plugin is getting popular especially in the field of multiobjective optimization of building performance design [40,49,94] and verified by recent research [95,96]. Parameters including WWR and algae density were connected to the Genetic input, while performance metrics, EUI, and UDI were connected to the Fitness input (Fig.…”

“…Note that the type of glazing has a greater impact on the energy demand in hot countries than the orientation, building shape, and storey level [19]. Shahbazi [20] introduced a new tool to optimise the glazing system by using a parametric study. In cold regions, the WWR may affect the solar gain and the daylight in winter when passive solar heat is required; however, it may lead to overheating in summer [21].…”
