An Efficacious Endometrial Sampler for Screening Endometrial Cancer

Abstract: Recently, the research on early detection of precancerous change and endometrial carcinoma has been focusing on minimally invasive procedures for screening. On this basis, we aim to verify the feasibility of endometrial samplers for screening endometrial cancer using Li Brush. We recruited patients undergoing hysterectomy for different diseases from the Inpatient Department of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Before surgery, endometrial cells were collected by Li Brush. The cytopathologic diagnosis… Show more

“…The disposable endometrial sampler, Li Brush, is highly effective in the screening of endometrial lesions. The sensitivity and specificity for screening endometrial cancers and precancerous lesions were 92.73 and 98.15%, respectively (13)(14)(15). The high accuracy of Li Brush also has been confirmed for the diagnosis of different endometrial conditions in previous studies (14).…”

“…For part I, endometrial biopsies were performed by Li Brush (Xi'an Meijiajia Bio-Technologies Co. Ltd., China, 20152660054) after the normal position of IUDs were confirmed by transvaginal ultrasonography which has been found to be effective in locating IUDs (16,17). The sampling procedure of Li Brush was performed according to the protocol in the previous article (14). The distance from the upper edge of the IUD to the uterine fundus was measured before and after sampling.…”

“…It predominantly occurs in women after menopause, and the estimated age-standardized incidence rates (ASRs) vary from 1 to 30 cases per 100,000 women across all nations (2, 3). The 5-year survival rate of endometrial carcinoma decreases with the development of endometrial carcinoma stages, and previous study shows that 80% of the patients diagnosed with endometrial cancer are stage I, with a >95% 5-year survival rate (4). Therefore, a simple, accurate and cost-effective screening method to detect endometrial atypical hyperplasia and the early stages of endometrial cancer is an urgent need in clinical practice (5).…”

“…Endometrial cytological samples were all collected from patients by using the Li Brush (20152660054, Xi'an Meijiajia Medical Technology Co. Ltd., China). The following procedures were performed as described in a previous study [8,[25][26][27]. Two-step staining for endometrial slides First, the clips were taken out of the alcohol and washed for ve minutes three times by phosphatebuffered saline (PBS).…”

“…Endometrial cancer is the second-most prevalent cancer after breast cancer, with a median diagnosed age of 62 years, and the ve-year survival of early diagnosed cases is approximately 96% [1]. The limitation of dilation and curettage (D&C) has led to the advent of new and simple methods for endometrial sampling, including those by Pipelle, SAP-1 and Li Brush, together with the endometrial cytology test (ECT) [2][3][4][5][6][7]. However, limitations also exist in ECT for early diagnosis and screening of endometrial cancer, such as a lack of enough cytology pathologists and a uni ed standardisation system [8].…”
