An Efficient Catalyst System at Mild Reaction Conditions Containing Rare Earth Metal Complexes

Abstract: An efficient rare earth metal complex-catalyzed cycloaddition reaction of CO 2 with propylene oxide using Hdpza (di(2-pyrazyl)amine) as a N-donor ligand has been accomplished in good to excellent yields with high selectivity. The effects of different rare earth metal salts, ligands and reaction conditions were examined. Catalytic reaction tests demonstrated that the incorporation of ErCl 3 and Hdpza can significantly enhance the catalytic reactivity of the TBAB ( n Bu 4 NBr, tetra-n-butyl ammonium bromide) tow… Show more

“…However, experimental results only manifest a minimal quantity of Ce‐containing inclusions, with the exact classification remaining inconclusive. This is consistent with findings observed by Yang et al, [ 27 ] where the cerium content of less than 0.0015% led to negligible rare earth inclusions in the steel. CeAlO 3 and Ce 2 O 2 S inclusions are stable phases, and the amount of Ce‐Al‐O surpasses Ce 2 O 2 S in the C75 sample.…”

“…They also require co-solvents to achieve excellent activity (Ghosh et al, 2010). Up to now, reports on rare earth complex catalysts on the cycloaddition of carbon dioxide to propylene oxide for the synthesis of PC remain extremely scarce, and the catalytic function of heterocyclic amine ligand complexes for this series has been rarely explored (Wang et al, 2013). Considering that rare earth metal ions have high charges, high coordination numbers and incompact room compared to common transition metal ions, it is our interest to investigate the novel and efficient rare earth metal catalyst system for synthesizing PC under relatively mild reaction conditions (Lin & Luo, 2006).…”
