An efficient hybrid differential evolution based serial method for multimode resource-constrained project scheduling

Abstract: The Multimode Resource-Constrained (MRC) problem aims at finding the start times and execution modes for the activities of a project that minimizes project duration under current precedence constraints and resource limitations. This study integrates the fuzzy c-means clustering technique and the chaotic technique into the Differential Evolution to develop the Fuzzy Clustering Chaotic-based Differential Evolution (FCDE) algorithm, an efficient hybrid approach to solving MRC and other related problems. Within th… Show more

“…With insight from the construction system characteristic, the planning and scheduling technique requires inputs, interacting processes, system boundaries and outputs to solve the project challenges (Tsehayae and Fayek, 2016). The system boundary specifies the system's objectives, constraints, assumptions and initial conditions (Cheng and Tran, 2016). The approach can form the critical element to support the plan and schedule, even though the project team has inadequate insight into the system components (Zavadskas et al , 2016).…”

“…In [9], an efficient hybrid differential evolution method has been presented which works based on the serial method. The method employs both a fuzzy c-mean clustering technique and a chaotic routine, and incorporates them into a differential evolution procedure.…”

“…Senouci and El-Rayes (2009) presented a multiobjective optimization model for establishing an efficient resource utilization and construction schedule. Afruzi et al (2014), Rostami et al (2014) and Cheng and Tran (2016) solved the resource-constrained TCTP. Al-Shihabi and AlDurgam (2020) added the credit-limit parameter to the TCTP and solved the problem by integer linear programming.…”
