An Efficient Load Balancing Scheme for Multi-Gateways in Wireless Mesh Networks

Abstract: Abstract-In Wireless Mesh Networks (WMNs), we usually deploy multiple Internet Gateways (IGWs) to improve the capacity of WMNs. As most of the traffic is oriented towards the Internet and may not be distributed evenly among different IGWs, some IGWs may suffer from bottleneck problem. To solve the IGW bottleneck problem, we propose an efficient scheme to balance the load among different IGWs within a WMN. Our proposed load-balancing scheme consists of two parts: a traffic load calculation module and a traffic … Show more

“…Virtualization technique lets the user to share the same resources by separating applications and services from the actual resources using the middle layer and uses IT resource as the logical resource rather than the individual resource [18][19][20][21][22][23][24]. Server partitioning is a typical example of the virtualization technique and it lets the resource to be shared by partitioning a single large server into many smaller systems.…”

“…VMware, Inc. has the largest market share in the virtualization technology. They already have technologies that support Infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS), Platform-as-a-service (PaaS) and Software-as-a-service (SaaS), all of which are verified as virtualized services [13][14][15][16][17][18][19][20]. Since the existing servers and network systems construct the server systems that fit their own purposes depending on the programs they run, high-cost investments for the servers and networks and the maintenance costs such as backup and storage processes have increased, resulting in overall cost increase for the IT apparatus construction and its maintenance Figs.…”

“…In this paper, we assume that all deployed sensors are homogeneous in terms of sensing range, angle of view, and number of orientations. We also assume that each sensor is aware of its location by using an arbitrary localization method [18][19][20] and a directional sensor network is connected due to the large communication range of sensors without considering the connectivity issue of sensors.…”
