An Efficient Message Dissemination Technique in Platooning Applications

Abstract: Abstract-Autonomous driving in road trains, a.k.a. platooning, may reduce fuel consumption considerably if the intervehicle distances are kept short. However, to do this, the intraplatoon communication must not only be reliable but also able to meet strict deadlines. While time-triggered messages are the foundation of most distributed control applications, platooning is likely to also require dissemination of event-driven messages. While much research work has focused on minimizing the age of periodic messages… Show more

“…To the present, a lot of studies about information dissemination have been conducted on facilitating vehicular networks over the platooning-based driving in [7][8][9][10][11][12][13][14][15]. The studies mainly focuses on spectral efficiency, transmission reliability, and transmission delay of the vehicular networks.…”

“…The studies mainly focuses on spectral efficiency, transmission reliability, and transmission delay of the vehicular networks. For example, Hoang et al [15] proposed an event-driven message dissemination scheme that minimizes the probability of packet error at the intended receiver based on relay selection. Even though these works can improve the performance of the vehicular networks over the platoon, they do not fully consider the energy efficiency in terms of the maintenance of the platooning.…”
