An Efficient Photocatalytic Degradation of Methyl Blue Dye by using Synthesised PbO Nanoparticles

Abstract: We report here the synthesis of visible light sensitive PbO and Ni doped PbO nanoparticles by hydrothermal method and characterized by UV-DRS, photoluminescence spectroscopy (PL), FTIR, X-ray diffraction (XRD), SEM, EDAX and TGA. Further an efficient approach has been developed for degradation of methyl blue (MB) in aqueous medium. The photodegradation of dye was monitored as a function of dye concentration, pH and catalyst amount has been determined. The reduction in the chemical oxygen demand (COD) revealed … Show more

“…The PbS NPs have vital applications in nonlinear optical device such as absorbers in solar cells [20], optical information storage [21], light emitting diodes [22], infrared detector [23], gas sensor [18], optical amplification [24], and optical switches [25], due to the exceptional third-order non-linear optical properties [26].…”

“…The weak band observed at 1628 cm −1 is attributed to the bending vibration modes of water (H-O-H) [12], which might be due to the aqueous medium used to synthesize the PbS nanopowder. The peaks at 1112 cm −1 and 606 cm −1 are due to heteropolar diatomic molecules of lead sulphide [13]. Besides, no strong bands associated with Pb-S stretching and bending vibrations are observed in the FT-IR spectrum as the bond associated with Pb-S is mainly electrovalent in nature [14].…”

“…Water pollution due to dyeing industry is the matter of great concern since large quantity of effluent is discharged into the water bodies. [19][20][21] The photocatalytic behavior of Undoped and Ni doped ZnS nano particles on the degradation of Methylene Blue, a widely used dye by the textile industries was carried out using ZnS, and Ni doped ZnS nano particles and the degradation percentage was calculated. 0.030 g of samples were suspended in 4 beakers each of 20ml methylene blue dye stock solution (5 ppm) and were irradiated simultaneously with a 8W UV lamp placed at a distance of 4.0 cm.…”
