Abstract

The industry is at a fork in the road right now. Oil and gas are in high demand, but the sector is under ongoing stress from a number of different directions. These include things like greenhouse gas emissions and climate change, price, supply security, and ever-increasing exploration and production expenditures. Yet labor-related problems rank high. An environment like this has sparked a competition for talent among oil and gas firms. The issue is more intricate in nations like India. In order to put in place a talent management system, a company must first determine what skills are needed for various positions within the company, then conduct an audit of its current workforce to determine where gaps exist, and finally, create training and development initiatives to close those gaps.
