An empirical approach for evaluating the usability of model-driven tools

Abstract: Abstract. MDD tools are very useful to draw conceptual models and to automate code generation. Even though this would bring many benefits, wide adoption of MDD tools is not yet a reality. Various research activities are being undertaken to find why and to provide the required solutions. However, insufficient research has been done on a key factor for the acceptance of MDD tools: usability. With the help of end-users, this paper presents a framework to evaluate the usability of MDD tools. The framework will be … Show more

“…For each of the CVL related UPs extracted from the analysis of the data, we fill a template similar to the one proposed by [28], indicating the ID of the UP, the name of the UP (Name), the description of the UP (Description), the classification of the UP (Ergonomic Criterion), the usability evaluation method used to detect the UP (UEM source) and the number of occurrences for that particular UP (# of occurrences). In order to determine the Ergonomic Criterion of each UP we have attended to the Bastien and Scapin ergonomic criteria classification [29].…”

“…(a) Comprehension score. An ANOVA test [4] was conducted to compare the comprehension score for the different model fragments. There was a signifi- cant effect of the model fragments on the comprehension score at p<0.05 for isolated fragments, crossing fragments, and recursive fragments [F(2,93) = 22.729, p = 0.000].…”
