An empirical research agenda for value capture theory

Abstract

Value capture theory, or the application of cooperative game theory to theory and pedagogy in strategic management, has been growing in influence, but its potential for empirical research is underexploited. I briefly review value capture theory and then offer thoughts on how it may motivate and inform empirical research that both tests specific elements of value capture theory and uses insights and econometric models based on value capture theory to deepen our understanding of many topics of interest to strategy scholars and practitioners.
