Abstract:In this paper an attempt is made to survey and evaluate factors contributing to the geriatric problem in an industrial and rural area with a population exceeding half a million inhabitants, 12.5% of whom are in the 65 years and over age group. Environmental, social, clinical and financial aspects are considered. Possible assistance with hospital planning leading to more accurate future geriatric bed allocation is discussed.
