An Environmentally-Friendly Tourist Village in Egypt Based on a Hybrid Renewable Energy System––Part One: What Is the Optimum City?

Abstract: Abstract:The main objective of this work is to select the optimum city from five touristic Egyptian cities (Luxor, Giza, Alexandria, Qena and Aswan) to establish an environmentally-friendly tourist village. The selection of the city, according to the economic cost (cost of energy (COE), net present cost (NPC)) and the amount of greenhouse gases (GHG) emitted, is carried out with respect to four cases, based on the effects of ambient temperature and applying GHG emission penalties. According to the simulation r… Show more

“…The importance of the types of renewable energies used in "green" hotels is growing in specific context such as islands [12], wilderness [61] or other remote locations [59,62]. From previous studies, it is rather apparent, that renewable energy is preferred as compared to using common resources like gas or coal [63] or nuclear power supply [64].…”

“…However, there are several approaches, which have been employed regarding the HRES on land; some of the new approaches have been published in 2015 [14][15][16][17][18]. These approaches are mainly focused on how to get the optimal system from different HRES configurations that can reduce the amount of GHG emissions besides achieving least cost of energy (COE) and net present cost (NPC) [19,20].…”
