Preparing for an unprecedented event involving the movement of populations could take up large amounts of resources if done conventionally. The main motivation of this study is the behavioural modification approach which is an underexplored potential in evacuation dynamics, offering new possibilities in terms of practicality and ease of implementation. This paper tackles an adaptive building evacuation simulation and decision support framework that will serve as a guide to evaluate and propose evacuation strategies for disaster management researchers and decision-making authorities. The framework mainly involves the formulation of the cognitive agent model, the evacuation simulation, and the decision support. The timeliness in the Philippine context of the long-overdue "Big One" earthquake, the vulnerability of the case study, and the capability of the framework to be a standard guide where components can be customized by users based on the disaster type and site-specific requirements make this research a significant undertaking.

In emergency situation, mass panic often causes more causalities than the disaster itself. The crowd emotional model could be used to simulate how crowd behavior in emergency scenarios and be helpful for developing crowd evacuation plans in emergency situations. However, existing crowd emotional models usually set model parameters in an empirical manner and are not validated by real cases. In this paper, a crowd emotional model is proposed to simulate the crowd movement in outdoor emergency situations. First of all, the crowd entropy and the movement difference are proposed to describe the emotional impact of the crowd scene on the agents. The perception of vision and hearing are considered, and the calculation formulas of the agent's emotional intensity and crowd emotional contagion are proposed. By calculating individual trajectories in the real video, the cumulative differences between the movements of the real crowd and the corresponding virtual crowd are analyzed. At last, a multi-parameter optimization method is implemented by the differential evolution algorithm. To verify the parameters in models, three videos which are generated from three real cases, including explosion attack, shooting incident, and crowd disturbance are selected for experimental verification. The results showed that the proposed model could be a feasible method for optimizing parameters to simulate the emergency scenario.

Crowd evacuation under emergency is an important task of world public security research and practice. In order to describe the microemotional contagion of evacuation individuals, a cellular automata-based evacuation model of emotional contagion crowd based on the classical SIS model of infectious diseases is proposed in this paper. Firstly, the state of evacuation individual is defined as “emotional susceptible” and “emotional infective.” Then, a dynamic model considering emotional contagion is established with cellular automata. Based on the models of static floor field and dynamic floor field, the emotion updating rules and state updating rules are constructed. The influence of perception domain radius on pedestrian evacuation process is analyzed through experiments. The conclusion can provide evacuation guidance for evacuation individuals. The comparative experiment results show that the improved model can reflect the movement characteristics of evacuation individuals effectively. The evacuation efficiency of the whole system is also effectively improved due to the consideration of emotional contagion and evacuation strategy.
