Research data indicate that in some studies of individuals arrested for DUIs (and where a formal alcohol dependence evaluation was conducted for each person), approximately 90 percent of these drivers were found to be either alcohol dependent or alcohol abusers (Crancer, 1986;Kruzich, Silsby, Gold & Hawkins, 1986). This suggests that a single incident DUI is strongly predictive of other serious alcohol problems.…”
