An evaluation of estimation data collection to trial‐by trial data collection during discrete trial teaching

Abstract: There are many data collection procedures used during discrete trial teaching including first‐trial data collection, probe data, trial‐by‐trial data collection, and estimation data. Continuous, or trial‐by‐trial data collection, consists of the interventionist collecting data on learner behavior on each trial. Estimation data consists of the interventionist estimating learner performance after a teaching session using a rating scale. The purpose of the present study was to compare trial‐by‐trial data collectio… Show more

“…The basis function selected by the basis function method based on polynomial data has the property of the function f(t) to be estimated, so less K can be selected for estimation and the operation speed is improved ( Gröschner et al, 2019 ; Dewaele and Dewaele, 2020 ; Ferguson et al, 2020 ; Havik and Westergård, 2020 ; Li H. et al, 2020 ; Penttinen et al, 2020 ). In the smoothing process, K itself is not a fixed value but a parameter that needs to be selected.…”

“…If this type of data collection is not possible, it is important to design systems that caregivers can easily manage in the home. Existing literature suggests that estimation (Ferguson et al, 2019 ; Taubman, Leaf, McEachin, Papovich, & Leaf, 2013 ) and probe (Ferguson et al, 2019 ; Lerman, Dittlinger, Fentress, & Lanagan, 2011 ) data collection systems can provide a reasonable estimate of skill acquisition performance. Caregivers can also use Google Forms to collect data on instructional activities.…”
