In our study, we investigated the change patterns in academics’ servant leadership behavior and affective commitment during and after the first Covid-19 lockdown (April 2020–August 2020) in Malaysia. Furthermore, we evaluated the influence of academics’ servant leadership behavior on job performance through affective commitment. We applied additional analyses to determine the degree to which the two former constructs are influenced by age and academic rank. To do so, we leveraged multivariate latent growth curve (LGC) modeling in analyzing the longitudinal data collected from 220 academics at three time points over a course of four months during the Covid-19 pandemic. Our results showed that, while servant leadership and affective commitment were stable over time, servant leadership was a driver of affective commitment and job performance. We also observed that affective commitment significantly mediated the relationship between academics’ servant leadership behavior and job performance. Moreover, we found interindividual differences in servant leadership and affective commitment in terms of age and academic rank at the beginning of the Covid-19 lockdown. Our multi-disciplinary research is among the limited number of studies applying a rigorous, longitudinal approach to examine behaviors (i.e., servant leadership and job performance) and attitudes (i.e., affective commitment) during the Covid-19 pandemic in higher education research.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to focus on the implementation and evaluation of knowledge management and e-transformation strategies of higher educational institutions in distance education. After an evaluation of higher educational practices in different countries, distance education was considered a different strategy and was emphasized as an advantage in competitiveness. Design/methodology/approach The study reflects a case study in the context of qualitative research. A written view report was conducted to evaluate the awareness of digital efficiency and roles of the teachers in learning environments and evaluation processes in the organizational structure. The qualitative data were evaluated through Nvivo qualitative data analysis. When the literature is overviewed, it can be observed that there are limited studies in this field. Findings As a result, distance education contributes a lot to providing equal opportunities in education. It is of great importance that individuals are aware of their roles in the process of accessibility, institutional support, technological infrastructure, support provided for students, learning-teaching environments and evaluation of distance education programs based on equality and life-long learning. In applications of different countries evaluated by Salmon et al. (2014) based on Carpe Diem Model, it is argued that knowledge management and sharing, the role of teachers and digital capability in distance education applications are crucial. Research limitations/implications The study is limited to 35 research participants. Practical implications Internationalization has become an important issue in higher educational activities. Social implications Diffusion of the uses of knowledge management practice in distance education is important. Originality/value The study has a great value on the use of international perspectives and the Carpe Diem Model for the evaluation.

Data processing is complicated nowadays due to its vast amount and low structuration level. Perspective field to provide such structuration is exceptional studies because, in most cases, they foresee measuring parameters planned before such expeditions. Therefore, it is possible to define the parameters that will be measured and prepare forms to fill them during the expedition. This study substantiates the way of processing such data in the form of ontologies, providing structuring and interoperability of expedition data by providing a similar structuring approach. The case of using such an approach based on real-life expedition study in the field of the environment of the National Center "Junior Academy of Sciences of Ukraine" is described. The approach foresees using Excel to define the parameters that will be measured during an expedition in the form of table’s columns. Each row in such a table will represent the place or name of the research object. An additional column is devoted to inserting geolocation. After providing the research, such files are uploaded into Polyhedron system and ontology is generated. Such ontologies are stored and integrated into ArcGis and can be used to present their own results and provide background research by other researchers.
