“…Similar to the results of the present study, in the interactive reading activities carried out with third-grade students as part of the study conducted by Many and Wiseman (1992), it was observed that students gave reader-centered responses and gave responses with a perspective of reading as an aesthetical experience. In another study conducted by Lee (2013), it was concluded that reading activities carried out by obtaining reader responses were effective in establishing better comprehension of the text by revealing student experiences and that the aesthetic reading experience increased the reading motivations of students. Bu araştırmada edebî bir metinden yola çıkılarak okur tepkilerinin belirlenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Araştırmada durum çalışması desenlerinden bütüncül tek durum deseni yaklaşımı benimsenmiştir. Araştırmanın katılımcıları amaçlı örnekleme yöntemi ile belirlenmiş, çalışma grubu 10-11 yaş aralığında toplam 65 öğrenciden oluşturulmuştur. Çalışmada ilk olarak Samed Behrengi'nin "Küçük Kara Balık" adlı kitabı eşliğinde etkileşimli okuma çalışmaları yürütülmüş sonrasında da öğrencilerin bu eser hakkındaki görüşlerine başvurulmuştur. Uygulama sürecinde araştırmacı tarafından tutulan alan notları, öğrenciler tarafından yazılan kompozisyonlar ve okuma çalışmaları tamamlandıktan sonra öğrencilerden elde edilen yazılı görüşler veri toplama aracı olarak kullanılmış, verilerin analiz edilmesinde betimsel analiz ve içerik analizi kullanılmıştır. Kitaba ilişkin okur tepkileri üç farklı şekilde analiz edilmiş; birincisinde Schwartz (1992) tarafından oluşturulan değer sınıflamasına göre hazır tema ve kodlar üzerinden, ikincisinde araştırmacılar tarafından oluşturulan kod ve temalar üzerinden, üçüncüsünde Wollman-Bonilla ve Werchadlo (1995) tarafından geliştirilen kategoriler üzerinden değerlendirme yapılmıştır. Kitaba verilen okur tepkileri analiz edildiğinde "öz yönelim, uyarılım ve iyilikseverlik" temalarına ait olan alt değerlerin sıklık oranının yüksek olduğu, öğrencilerin kitabı içselleştirdikleri ve kendi hayatları ile bağdaştırarak estetik tepkiler verdikleri, "aileye değer verme" özellikle de "anneye bağlılık" değerinin ön plana çıktığı tespit edilmiştir. Metnin ötesinde okurun varlığını ve tepkisini görebilmek adına bundan sonraki çalışmalarda farklı yaş grupları ile çalışılarak ahlaki ve bilişsel gelişim dönemlerinin okur tepkileri üzerindeki etkilerinin ortaya çıkarılması önerilmektedir.

In the context of what has been called a new sociosemiotic landscape in communications, this article explores how reading multimodal texts demands a change in literacy practices and reflects on the impact of these changes on second language reading. We review the literature that has incorporated multimodal texts in the discussion of second language reading and evaluate it in light of the practices second language readers engage in when comprehending multimodal texts. Implications of this transition from understanding reading as an individual, text-based, and univocal activity to approaching it as literacy practice are included. We finish with reflections and conclusions derived from such explorations.Keywords: sociosemiotic landscape, multimodal texts, second language reading, literacy ResumenEn el contexto de lo que se ha denominado como un nuevo paisaje sociosemióti-co en las comunicaciones, este artículo explora la forma como la lectura de textos multimodales requiere de cambios en las prácticas de literacidad y reflexiona sobre el impacto de estos cambios en la lectura en segunda lengua. Reseñamos la literatura que ha incorporado los textos multimodales en las discusiones de la lectura en segunda lengua y la evaluamos a la luz de las prácticas que los lectores de una segunda lengua utilizan en los procesos de comprensión lectora. Se discuten las implicaciones de esta transición entre concebir la lectura como actividad individual, unívoca y basada en el texto a una concepción plural como práctica de literacidad. Finalizamos con reflexiones y conclusiones derivadas de esta evaluación crítica.

The intent of this article is to promote a methodological approach to the analysis of literature discussions by adopting a conversational analytic approach that views embodied actions (including talk) as multimodal. It is argued that this analytic approach moves beyond previous studies that focus on talk only, when analysing literature discussions, and further, that such an approach contributes to an increase in our understanding of the complex meaning-making processes that are set into play when students interact on literary texts in school.
