Energy drives the growth, transformation, and economic development of every nation. The vitality of human existence and progress hinges on the accessibility of both energy and water resources. As freshwater resources are diminishing, therefore, desalination needs have increased. In solar membrane distillation systems, the key challenge is maintaining the intake water temperature in the membrane distillation system with fluctuating solar radiation intensity which affects the distillate water quantity and quality. The objective of this study is to enhance and optimize a mathematical model for analyzing a cutting-edge solar-integrated PV/T-DCMD system. In this innovative integration, the direct contact membrane distillation intake water temperature is derived from the photovoltaic thermal output. The integration of direct contact membrane distillation with photovoltaic thermal systems represents a cost-effective and technologically advantageous concept. As the water temperature increases, there is a notable improvement in the evaporation efficiency of PV/T-DCMD systems, with an increase from 35.08% to 42.01%. Additionally, there is a reduction in specific thermal energy consumption, decreasing from 1,192 to 1,386 kWh/m3 as a consequence of the elevated feed water temperature.

With the growing demand for photovoltaic (PV) systems as a source of energy generation that produces no greenhouse gas emissions, effective strategies are needed to address the inherent inefficiencies of PV systems. These systems typically absorb only approximately 15% of solar energy and experience performance degradation due to temperature increases during operation. To address these issues, PV–thermal (PVT) technology, which combines PV with a thermal absorber to dissipate excess heat and convert it into additional thermal energy, is being rapidly developed. This review presents an overview of various PVT technologies designed to prevent overheating in operational systems and to enhance heat transfer from the solar cells to the absorber. The methods explored include innovative absorber designs that focus on increasing the heat transfer contact surface, using mini/microchannels for improved heat transfer contiguity, and substituting traditional metal materials with polymers to reduce construction costs while utilizing polymer flexibility. The review also discusses incorporating phase change materials for latent heat absorption and using nanofluids as coolant mediums, which offer higher thermal conductivity than pure water. This review highlights significant observations and challenges associated with absorber design, mini/microchannels, polymer materials, phase change materials, and nanofluids in terms of PV waste heat dissipation. It includes a summary of relevant numerical and experimental studies to facilitate comparisons of each development approach.

The Impact of Industry Clusters on the Performance of High Technology Small and Middle Size Enterprises

Based on the theory of independent innovation and competitive advantage, this paper takes industry cluster as the independent variable, long-term high-technology small and middle size enterprises (high-tech SMEs) performance and short-term high-tech SMEs’ performance as the dependent variable, and introduces independent innovation as the mediator variable to explore the impact of industry cluster on high-tech SMEs’ performance. SPSS22.0 was used to test the reliability and validity of the questionnaire distributed to 310 high-tech SMEs in Sichuan, China. SPSS is used for statistical analysis, integrating data entry, organization, and analysis functions. Its basic functions include data management, statistical analysis, chart analysis, and output management. A confirmatory factor analysis was conducted. Amos 24.0 is the structural equation model analysis software. After using Amos 24.0 to construct the SEM (Structural Equation Modelling) to verify the hypothesis, it was found that industry cluster has a significant positive impact on long-term and short-term high-tech SMEs’ performance, independent innovation has a significant positive impact on long-term and short-term high-tech SMEs’ performance, and independent innovation plays a mediator role in the relationship between industry cluster and high-tech SMEs’ performance. Based on the research results, this paper puts forward the following suggestions: (1) attach importance to independent innovation, introduce relevant technical talents, and improve innovation; and (2) accelerate the formation of clusters to improve the high-tech SMEs’ performance of the whole industry.
