An Experimental Evaluation and Characterization of VoIP Over an LTE-A Network

Abstract: Mobile telecommunications are converging towards all-IP solutions. This is the case of the Long Term Evolution (LTE) technology that, having no circuit-switched bearer to support voice traffic, needs a dedicated VoIP infrastructure, which often relies on the IP Multimedia Subsystem architecture. Most telecom operators implement LTE-A, an advanced version of LTE often marketed as 4G+, which achieves data rate peaks of 300 Mbps. Yet, although such novel technology boosts the access to advanced multimedia content… Show more

“…Our testbed allows to gather two types of results: the first one is available in terms of cumulative logs, directly provided by Clearwater, reporting the distribution of SIP calls within pre-defined CSD intervals. Such values are in the order of few hundreds of milliseconds, namely, an order of magnitude lesser than CSD experimented in real environments [44]. This is absolutely reasonable due to the fact that we operate on a local infrastructure, where no propagation delays, noisy communication lines, nor congestion are present.…”

“…Для решения задачи классификации выбран алго ритм типа «Случайный лес» (RF, Random Forest) в стандартной реализации библиотекой scikit-learn 13 . Выбор алгоритма обусловлен широтой применения указанного алгоритма для решения задач однозначной классификации [22][23][24][25].…”

“…According to [39][40][41], the VoIP traffic in 4G/5G networks requires high data rates and is still vulnerable to attacks. The tools and methodologies we present in this paper can be used as described to capture VoIP traffic in 5G and B5G (Beyond 5G) networks.…”
