An experimental investigation of cylindrical wire electrical discharge turning process using Taguchi approach

Abstract: This paper is concerned with Cylindrical Wire Electrical Discharge Turning processes being especially developed for difficult to machine materials. First, the effects of the machining parameters power, voltage, pulse off time, and spindle rotation rate on the machining performance, which comprises the material removal rate, the surface roughness, and the roundness, was studied. The machining parameters were evaluated by Taguchi's method. In particular, an L 9 (3 4 ) standard orthogonal array was employed as ex… Show more

“…The EDM can be used to machine very small, delicate and fragile products without damage because no cutting forces are applied and hence there are no mechanical induced residual stresses. However, EDM has its own limitations with regards to the workpiece material and shape [26,31,32]. At present EDM can only be applied on electrically conductive materials.…”

“…These techniques use orthogonal arrays to define the experimental plans. The treatment of the experimental results is based on the analysis of variance (ANOVA) [18,19]. Table 2shows the parameter settings for WEDG experiments.…”

“…Haddad and colleagues [82][83][84] performed an experimental investigation of cylindrical wire electrical discharge turning (CWEDT) process on AISI D3 tool steel. The paper finds the influence of process parameters, namely, voltage, power, pulse off-time and spindle rotation on MRR, Ra and roundness.…”
