An experimental study and model development of poly(ethylene terephthalate) yarn morphology

Abstract: In this study, macromolecular arrangements in fibers were investigated and a novel approach based on model development for partially oriented (POY) polyethylene terephthalate (PET) yarn morphology was proposed. Differential scanning calorimeter (DSC) analysis, Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) analysis, boiling water shrinkage and tensile tests were performed through the study. DSC thermogram, FT-IR spectra, stress-strain curve, the change in the boiling water shrinkage properties and data from the literature… Show more

“…POY PET yarn contains a significant non-oriented amorphous phase, an oriented amorphous phase, and a minimal crystalline structure. In contrast, textured yarns primarily consist of an oriented amorphous phase and a crystalline phase, with negligible non-oriented amorphous regions [85].…”

“…In contrast, textured yarns primarily consist of an oriented amorphous phase and a crystalline phase, with negligible non-oriented amorphous regions. [86] The effects of different cross-sectional shapes and linear density values on the characteristics of PES flat and textured yarn were investigated. After the texturing process, there was a tendency for the yarns to exhibit increased tenacity values and decreased breaking elongation values.…”

“…The yarn morphology and structure of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) yarn are affected by heat treatment to remove stress in the filament. 1012 Stress-strain, recovery behavior, dye-uptake, optical properties and thermal properties of PET yarn are all affected by heat setting parameters. 4 Annealing of PET yarn occurs above its glass transition temperature (Tg) without tension, 13,14 due to chain folding of macromolecules in the amorphous region.…”
