An FPGA Chaos-Based PWM Technique Combined with Simple Passive Filter for Effective EMI Spectral Peak Reduction in DC-DC Converter

Abstract: A new and simple but effective electromagnetic interference suppression technique based on field programmable logic array (FPGA) technology to provide a significant EMI noise attenuation in DC-DC converters is discussed. The voltage controlled boost converter for EMI reduction is analyzed using FFT under traditional PWM technique and chaotic mode operation. This technique aids the DC-DC converters to comply in specified EMI limits and replace conventional bulky passive filter with a simple passive filter. A pr… Show more

“…However, no significant enhancements in spectral reduction are observed when β > 0.3. This may result from the increased low‐frequency spectral components and the overlaps between the successive frequency spectrum ranges [19, 30]. It has been recommended in [30] that the upper limit of the modulation index should be <1/3 to avoid such overlapping.…”

“…This is because the randomness does not rely only on two distinct carriers but also on the sequential pattern used for selection. Linear feedback shift register (LFSR) is the best solution to offer the above requirement (more randomness) [20][21][22][23]. The principle of LFSR is based on the logical operation of several bits of a digital number and is commonly known as pseudo-PWM code generator in communication systems [23,24].…”
