An impact behavior analysis of CNT‐based fiber reinforced composites validated by LS‐DYNA: A review

Abstract: In last 2 decades use of CNT based‐Fiber Reinforced Polymer (FRP) Composite have revolutionized the aerospace, automobile, marine industry as it have showed exceptional mechanical properties like impact resistant, high energy absorbing capacities, damping properties, etc. The goal of this review is to explore the validation of impact behavior in CNT based FRP composite by LS‐DYNA. Impact behavior depends upon various parameters like velocity of impact, shape of impactor and its weight, environmental conditions… Show more

“…Graphene nano platelets (GnPs) which has been recently developed single layered carbon nano material is a useful polymer reinforcement material which has a large surface area led to increase the stress transfer between polymer and nano material [4,5,6,7]. Graphene has a 2-D nanostructure and leads an enhancement in toughness of fibers [8,9].…”

“…of their content and obstruct the extreme improvement of the mechanical properties of the entire composite. 28,38 On the other hand, manufacturing a body armor of sufficient thickness and areal size based only upon CNTs is difficult and costly. 39 Thus, the full potential of CNTs seems to not be nearly achieved, and CNT may continue to be explored, not as an alternative, but as a nano-additive material to the commonly used armor materials.…”

“…Materials and structural design such as geometric dimension and fiber orientation are essential for multiscale models to generate local material constitutive relationships used in addressing crashworthiness and safety and durability challenges. [ 14 ],[ 15 ] While the structural design of the LGFR‐PP material bumper beam under low‐velocity impact conditions has not been comprehensively studied. The crashworthiness and lightweight of automobile are complex system engineering.…”
