Abstract:Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a chronic illness characterized by an acute exacerbation of respiratory symptoms. Recurrent episodes of acute exacerbation result in acute hypercapnia and acute carbon dioxide narcosis, which are often accompanied byan altered level of consciousness.
