The operations of the fast-moving consumer goods (FMCGs) businesses in Nigeria rely on the efficiency and efficacy of cold chain service providers for quality storage and optimal safety of perishable goods. However, the sector faces obstacles such as inadequate technology, unskilled labour, insufficient funds, weak regulation, and a poor regulatory policy framework, all of which impede the business’s growth and performance. The goal of this study is to systematically review the issues that restrict cold chain logistics service providers’ performance in Nigeria’s highly perishable food business. This study employs PRISMA procedure and the systematic literature review technique to extract articles and emphasize the importance of employing cold chain services to increase efficiency, quality service delivery, and consumer fulfilment. The study’s findings demonstrate that achieving quality service delivery, service effectiveness, cost savings, and customer satisfaction is hampered by a lack of proper synergy between cold chain logistics service providers and cold chain major stakeholders such as regulators, as well as an absence of skilled personnel, policy, funding, infrastructure, and technologies for monitoring and tracking product movement and condition. By remedying these difficulties, Nigeria’s FMCGS sectors could potentially improve their performance and contribute to the development of a robust, sustainable cold chain logistics industry. As a result, the quality and safety of FMCG goods would be enhanced, driving the expansion of the FMCG sector in Nigeria. Future research findings should focus on the cold chain logistics performance leverages on economic growth and development in Africa.

With the rapid increase in demand for fresh products, cold chain logistics has become an important mode of transportation. Logistics enterprises are faced with the problem of cost control and improvement of customer satisfaction. In light of this, we present a bi-objective optimization vehicle routing problem model in cold chain logistics, which aims to reduce the total costs and improve customer satisfaction.To solve the intricate model, we propose a hybrid algorithm called the Simulated Annealing Non-dominated Sorting Genetic Algorithm II (SA-NSGA-II) algorithm, which amalgamates the simulated annealing algorithm with the NSGA-II algorithm, enabling efficient resolution of the bi-objective problem. Extensive numerical experiments validate the effectiveness of the proposed model and algorithm by exhibiting solutions with lower costs and higher satisfaction levels. Furthermore, we conduct a sensitivity analysis to explore the impact of vehicle speed on both costs and satisfaction, shedding light on the trade-offs between various optimization objectives.

An improved road impedance function in conformity with Chinese city road traffic is designed for calculating the actual transportation time based on real-time traffic information and the complex road environment in the city. The objective function minimizes the total distribution cost, including fixed cost, transportation cost, damage cost, energy cost, penalty cost, and carbon emission cost. A mathematical model is constructed for cold-chain logistics distribution path optimization considering the influence of road impedance. The model is solved using three particle swarm optimization algorithms with improved weights. The experimental results show that the self-adaptive weighted particle swarm optimization algorithm is more efficient in solving this model. Experimental results obtained from the cold-chain logistics path optimization model considering road impedance compared to those of the model without road impedance indicate that the former are closer to the actual situation. Based on the changes in carbon emission and total cost under different carbon taxes, we analyze the critical carbon tax value and the optimal carbon tax value range to improve the economic and environmental benefits in the distribution process. This study should prove to be of great practical significance and application value for logistics enterprises to conduct rational planning of path problems.INDEX TERMS Real-time traffic, road impedance function, particle swarm optimization algorithm, coldchain logistics, critical carbon tax value.
