An Improved “Interference Collapse Rule” of Quantum Mechanics

Abstract: The double-slit (gedanken-) experiment is the most famous experiment in quantum theory (QT). The explanation of the strange behavior of the electron in this experiment is used as a key example in QT in general. The description of the experiment includes a rationalization of when in quantum mechanics interference occurs and (most importantly) when it "collapses". The aforementioned rule, here called the "interference collapse rule", is contained in almost all textbooks of QT with only slight variations. However… Show more

“…The referenced formulation of the "interference collapse rule" cannot be mapped to a causal model because conditions such as "is capable of determining" cannot be translated to a formal causal model. In [6], an improved interference collapse rule is suggested, which relates the interference collapse to measurements and the wave function collapse. As a consequence, a causal model of the interference collapse can be established provided a causal model of the measurement process can be given.…”

“…In [6], an improved interference collapse rule is proposed as follows: "Interference is lost if the particle/wave becomes involved in a QFT-interaction on its way to the observation target." Involvement in a "QFT-interaction" refers to "determine-potential-QFTinteractions()" and "perform-interaction()" in the above causal model of QT/QFT.…”

“…The author claims that a functional description of the interference collapse would remove this deficiency. In [10], an improved interference collapse rule, which equates the interference collapse to the collapse of the wave function, is proposed.…”
