An improved MMUSIC algorithm of direction of arrival estimation

Abstract: An improved algorithm is presented for a signal's direction of arrival estimation to reduce the computational complexity of the existing modified multiple signal classification (MMUSIC) algorithm. In this paper, FFT algorithm is introduced to narrow the searching range of the direction angle. Afterwards, a compromise approach-based SVD and orthogonal-triangular decomposition takes the place of traditional double SVDs. Then, during matrix calculation, the noise subspace is achieved for the signal's direction of… Show more

“…In Section 3.2, we proposed a modified method to improve the accuracy of DOA estimation and verify the consistency of the modified method. Kundu [38,39] proposes a method to obtain the more accurate DOA estimation by using conjugate matrix. It performs better than the previously existing methods.…”

“…They are (a) switchedbeam systems and (b) adaptive array system. Smart antenna array processing [6,41,42,[71][72][73][74][75] is based on the configuration of the spatial correlation matrix at the antenna array. In the design of smart antenna [43,44,76] techniques, system architecture, implementation and complexity limitations need to be considered.…”

“…In a wireless cellular communications system, wireless location has received considerable attention in the last decade because of the wide range of potential applications using location-based information. The common approaches involve the measurement of the time of arrival (TOA) [1][2][3], signal strength [4], time difference of arrival [5], and angle of arrival (AOA) [6] of radio signal transmitted by the mobile station (MS) and received at a number of base stations (BSs). The main challenge for accurate MS position estimation is the non-line-of-sight (NLOS) propagation, which results in large measurement errors because of single bounce or multiple bounce scenarios.…”
