An improvement of Russian long-length AC electrical energy transmission systems by implementation of controllable shunt reactors

Abstract: The application of controllable shunt compensation by magnetic biased type controllable shunt reactors (CSR) is considered for improving the properties of long-length transmission lines by giving the example of Russian North-West 330 kV Kola-Karelian Interconnection. The reactive power consumed by CSRs in any operation condition is coordinated with the power flow through the line and voltage drop across the lines.
