Abstract:Artificial enzymes utilizing the genetically encoded non-proteinogenic amino acid p-aminophenylalanine (pAF) as catalytic residue are able to react with carbonyl compounds through an iminium ion mechanism, making reactions possible that have no equivalent in nature.
