An index of premorbid intelligence.

Abstract: The aim of this study was to develop a way of estimating Wechsler IQs from demographic measures. The three summary IQs of the 19SS WAIS standardization sample were regressed on age, sex, race, education, and occupation. The resulting R"s were .S3, .42, and .54 'for the Verbal IQ, Performance IQ, and Full Scale IQ, respectively. The three regression equations provide actuarial indices of IQ that can 'be used as estimates of premorbid ability in neuropsychological assessment and research.

“…A non-experimental design can never exclude all alternative explanations, but one can try to exclude several by analyzing further data on the early-onset, lateonset, and control groups. The three groups were indistinguishable with respect to sociodemographic data and estimated premorbid intelligence (Wilson et al 1978). They did not differ in the personality dimensions in psychometric testing.…”

“…Both groups consisted predominantly of students, thus forming a fairly homogeneous sample concerning sociodemographic status and intelligence. The groups did not differ with respect to the estimated premorbid intelligence level (Wilson et al 1978). All subjects were within 15 % of their ideal body weight.…”
