An Innovative Remote-Lab Framework for Educational Experimentation

Abstract: Abstract-This paper describes a flexible and scalable architecture of remote laboratories developed for students for experimentation in educational institutions, research labs and technology companies. The framework and procedures for multi-remote labs environment are explained. The development of the lab client software as a Rich Internet Application (RIA) is described. The utilization of low-cost hardware and software packages to provide the interface to the labs equipment is shown, and the deployment of Web… Show more

“…The LabVIEW program is known as a virtual instrument (VI), which consists of three components: Front Panel (to interact with users), Block Diagram (as program code), and Icon/Connector used to connect inter-VI. Lab-VIEW was chosen because it has the Web Publishing Tools feature where the resulting VI program can be converted to HTML so that it can be run by a web browser [15,16]. Thus, lab equipment can be accessed and operated remotely via the web.…”

“…Given that school dropout rates are still high in many countries, the current study aims to expand on the previous research by developing an intelligent attendance system using RFID (RFID-AS) for schools and universities. Due to its ability to connect "things" to their online virtual identities [20], RFID technology is essential for the implementation of the Internet of Things (IoT) [21,23]. Finally, the paper will test the RFID attendance system in a few classrooms at a higher level of education to evaluate the effectiveness of our system [24].…”
