An integrated approach of AHP and DEMATEL methods in evaluating the criteria of auto spare parts industry

Abstract: This study uses both analytic hierarchy process (AHP) and decision-making trial and evaluation laboratory (DEMATEL) methods to evaluate the criteria in auto spare parts industry in Taiwan. Traditionally, AHP does not consider indirect effects for each criterion and assumes that criteria are independent without further addressing the interdependence between or among the criteria. Thus, the importance computed by AHP can be viewed as short-term improvement opportunity. On the contrary, DEMATEL method not only ev… Show more

“…In effect, as a result of the implementation of the chain of methods and measures, which contain the determination of parameters, the creation of the perspectives, and the performance of analysis with the use of AHP and DEMATEL technologies, the Szczecin Municipality obtained a powerful support mechanism in their strategic decision-making process. It is also worthwhile to mention that the approach of using both methods is increasingly being used for various problems in logistics [47][48][49][50] as well as in other fields [51][52][53][54].…”

“…MCDM techniques can then deal with the multicausality nature of the bullwhip effect problem, which can be represented by a set of criteria related to the main causes of this phenomena: demand forecasting updating, order batching, price fluctuations, gaming, and rationing. In addition, the use of AHP and DEMATEL methods enable supply chain managers to design both short-term and long-term strategies based on linear dependency, interdependence, and feedback so that bullwhip effect management can be facilitated (Khan, Chaabane, & Dweiri, 2018;Ortiz-Barrios et al, 2017;Ortiz-Barrios et al, 2018;Wu & Tsai, 2012). This is complemented by the use of TOPSIS, which can calculate the gap between the current performance of bullwhip-phenomena-related criteria and the desired target (Saeida Ardakani, Nejatian, Farhangnejad, & Nejati, 2015;Shukla, Agarwal, Rana, & Purohit, 2017).…”
