Sugarcane being a long duration crop of 10-18 months faces many biotic and abiotic stresses which causes heavy losses in cane production and productivity. Timely and accurate diagnosis, of disorders that appear in crop due to these stresses, is required to reduce the losses. Paper illustrates CaneDES, an expert system to diagnose disorders in sugarcane caused by various biotic and abiotic stresses. It is a web based system available in both Hindi and English languages with remote accessibility to sugarcane farmers. A new classified knowledge representation technique has been adopted for the development of expert system, to manage the diagnostic knowledge efficiently. System was evaluated with the help of domain experts and extension personnel engaged in the services of sugarcane farmers. Evaluation was made in terms of time taken by extension personnel in diagnosis of disorder and confidence factor received from the system and results indicated high usability and efficiency of the system. System is of generic nature and can be used in other crop environment with changes in knowledge base.

The technologies used for an expert system development have a vital role and take the design to the next level of innovation. These innovations offer essential help to save lots of energy, resources and conjointly to secure the specified infrastructure. The paper concentrates on the innovative technologies used for building an expert system. An expert system also contains associate Interface within users interact and an Interface Engine that performs data reasoning. The planned design interconnects multiple programming languages, hardware and software parts to build the system.

The aim of this paper is to propose a customized recommendation model of educational resources for virtual courses that incorporates the benefits of ubiquitous computing and intelligent agents. This model is intended to provide relevant and personalized information to students about their virtual courses planning, online assessment, search and retrieval of learning objects. The methodology used for the construction of the system is MAS-CommonKADS which offers useful models for the phases of conceptualization, analysis and design expressed through artifacts provided by the Agent Unified Modeling Language (AUML). The prototype developed exhibits intelligent proactive and deliberative agents that allow the search and recommendation of information adapted to the student's profile. To validate the system a testing phase on a learning scenario was performed which demonstrate the effectiveness of using this kind of technology within ubiquitous virtual learning environments.
