The article discusses microplasma arc applications in welding, surfacing and remelting processes, describes the effect of microplasma arc and its burning conditions as well as presents the properties and the application range of plasma welding. In addition, the article presents examples of microplasma welded joints of thin elements and discusses the application of microplasma arc in surfacing and remelting as well as indicates advantageous features of plasma arc and its application potential as an alternative to other welding power sources.

Emphasis is placed on the performance of a two-stage pump equipped with an eroded impeller. Non-contact reverse engineering technique is utilized to acquire the point data constituting the three-dimensional geometrical model of the eroded impeller. With computational fluid dynamics, both the operation performance of the pump and flow patterns adjacent to the eroded blade surface are obtained. For comparison, the corresponding undamaged impeller is investigated as well. Preferable fidelity of the approach of constructing geometrical model of the damaged impeller is substantiated. The mechanism underlying performance degradation of the pump with the eroded impeller is evidenced. Local flow patterns near the eroded area are featured by explicit irregularity. Furthermore, between the defective and the undamaged pumps, disparity in positions where cavitation occurs is negligible.

Galvanic corrosion of non-welded/welded AISI 316L SS at different temperatures (25 ºC to 60 ºC) at a Reynolds number of 1456 in phosphoric acid media has been studied by means of different electrochemical techniques: polarization curves (by the mixed potential theory) and zero resistance ammeter (ZRA) measurements. Imposed potential measurements provide more active predicted coupled potentials and higher galvanic current densities than those obtained using ZRA measurements. Polarization curves show that the anode of the pair is the nonwelded AISI 316L. Galvanic current density values obtained from polarization curves increase with temperature. ZRA tests present the highest iG values at 60 ºC, however, the values are very close to zero for all the temperatures studied. This is in agreement with the low value of the compatibility limit and of the parameter which evaluate the galvanic phenomenon important. Both techniques present the most positive potentials at the highest temperature.
