Rapid urbanization has a significant impact on the ecological environment. Net primary productivity (NPP) can effectively reflect the growth of urban vegetation and the carbon sequestration capacity of an ecosystem. Taking the rapidly growing Pearl River Delta (PRD) as our study area, the relative contributions of human activities and climate change to NPP were analyzed using an improved two-step method based on residual trend analysis. The decoupling index was used to compare the coordinated development of socioeconomic factors and the NPP in different time periods. This study lays the foundation for formulating comprehensive and reasonable urban low-carbon development measures. The results showed that (1) NPP decreased significantly before 2010, but by 2019, NPP in most regions of the PRD showed a slight increase. The NPP of new urban land was better than that of original urban land. (2) The negative contribution of climatic factors to NPP was clearer than that of human activities, and human activities contributed positively to NPP outside urban land. (3) The decoupling status of socioeconomic factors and NPP is improving, and the degree of decoupling in 2010–2019 was higher than that in 2000–2010. In conclusion, as the first forest urban agglomeration in China, the PRD has shown a good implementation of carbon sequestration policies, which can provide a reference for the coordinated development of urbanization and carbon sequestration.

Spatiotemporal differences and influencing factors of high-quality utilization of land resources in the Yellow River Basin of China

High-quality utilization of land resources (HULR) is related to security of land ecosystem and sustainable development of socio-economy. To promote the HULR, we explored the spatiotemporal differences and influencing factors of HULR in the Yellow River Basin (an important ecological barrier in China) by using entropy method, spatial panel regression model, and geographically and temporally weighted regression model. We found that the HULR values were 0.22 to 0.28 from 2008 to 2019, showing an increasing trend with obvious spatiotemporal differences. The spatial connectivity, technological innovation, industrialization, industrial upgrading, and marketization are important factors influencing HULR, and different factors have different spatial effects in different regions. Therefore, the important principle of HULR in the Yellow River Basin is to pursue the coordinated development of human and land according to regional characteristics. We hope that this research can provide references for the HULR around the world.

Scientific evaluation and dynamic monitoring of regional ecological environment have important reference value for the establishment and implementation of regional ecological environment protection and restoration measures. Spatial principle component analysis was used to assess the present situation and the temporal and spatial variation characteristics of ecological environment of Kalajun-Kurdening natural heritage site by calculating the remote sensing ecological index (RSEI) and analyzing the landscape pattern. Three results are presented: (1) During 2006-2019, the mean values of the greenness indicator showed an increasing trend, with an increase of 10.58%, which proves that the vegetation coverage in Kalajun-Kurdening shows an increasing trend year by year. The other three indicators of dryness, moisture, and heat decreased by 134.51%, 14.66%, and 3.45% respectively. The change of greenness and dryness has a stronger positive effect on the ecological environment quality, while the negative effect of heat on the ecological environment quality is reduced. (2) During the 14 years, the regional RSEI of 1104.23 km 2 remained unchanged, accounting for 54.32% of the total area. The area with a descending RSEI is 547.23 km 2 , accounting for 26.92% of the total area, 84.52% of which had a drop of one level. The area with the rising RSEI is 381.31 km 2 , accounting for 18.75% of the total area, 90.56% of which has a rising by one level. (3) Landscape indexes of the different grade of RSEI in Kalajun-Kurdening showed that the landscape fragmentation was small, the structural complexity was reduced, and the landscape patches were regularized, artificial, and centralized; different types of RSEI had obvious agglomeration; and the cohesion between patches was relatively good. Overall, the ecological environment quality of the Kalajun-Kurdening world natural heritage site showed an upward trend from 2006 to 2019 without large-scale deterioration of, maintaining in good condition.
