One of the rare findings regarding the hernial sac is the vermiform appendix. This pathology, defined as Amyand’s hernia, occurs in almost 1% of all inguinal hernia cases (0.19-1.7%). Usually, it is diagnosed intraoperatively, because the preoperative diagnosis is very difficult. We report the case of a 56-year-old man with a voluminous mass in the right inguinal-scrotal region. During the surgical procedure, an Amyand’s hernia was identified and we performed reduction of the hernia, herniorrhaphy and Lichtenstein Tension-Free Repair with polypropylene mesh. The case that we presented was type 1 according to Losanoff and Basson’s classification, but also to Rikki modified classification, with a very controversial management. Clinical evaluation and surgeon’s experience are the base of the surgical treatment. Keywords: vermiform appendix, inguinal hernia, surgical treatment

Introduction. Gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) represent a rare type of gastrointestinal neoplasms. Resection with negative margins has been established as a mainstay treatment, but laparoscopic resections are still open to debate. Material and method. This retrospective study was conducted at a single institution, with data collected over 2 years (01.01.2017-01.01.2019). The variables examined were age, tumor location with regard to the gastric wall, the results of the intraoperative endoscopy, intraoperative and postoperative complications, the surgical technique, and histopathological reports. Results. We identified 12 relevant cases, of which 8 were females and 4 males. The average tumor diameter was 2.3 cm. The majority of the lesions were located on the anterior gastric wall (8 cases), on the small curvature (2 cases), and in the pyloric region (2 cases). Intraoperative endoscopy was performed successfully in 10 cases in order to identify the lesions and guide the resection. The average operative time was 120 minutes and the average hospital stay was 5 days. The gastric wall with the lesion was resected using an Ultrasonic device, a 2-cm oncological safety margin was preserved. Conclusion. Complete surgical resection independent from the tumor size represents the current optimal treatment. From a surgical point of view, these tumors must be considered malignant and the surgeon must respect principles of oncological surgery. Maintaining tumor integrity at dissection is critical for the patient's long-term prognosis. Laparoscopic resection independent of the tumor size is feasible.

A series of new compounds with quinazolin-4-one structure, synthesized by the , was studied. Five of them were selected, conventionally named S1, S2, S3, S4, S5, and investigated in terms of their potential influence on the central nervous system (CNS). For this purpose, the antidepressant effect was determined using the forced swimming test; the anxiolytic/ anxiogenic effect was determined using the suspended plus-shaped maze (Ugo Basile); the effect on the motor activity was determined using the Ugo Basile activity cage; and the potential analgesic effect was investigated using the hot plate test (Ugo Basile). Compounds S3 and S5 lowered the motor activity and showed an anxiolytic effect, while S1 and S2 proved to have antidepressant and analgesic effects.A good correlation between antidepressant and analgesic effects was observed, consistent with the fact that analgesic drugs, by increasing norepinephrine and serotonin levels in the pain inhibiting descendent pathways, can be used as co-analgesics in therapy.  quinazolin-4-one derivatives, antidepressant, anxiolytic, analgesic, pharmacological research Highlights  S1 and S2 reduced the immobilization time in the forced swimming test by 25.98%, respectively 28.45%  S3 and S5 have been shown to have relatively similar pharmacological profiles with respect to influence on HMA and VMA Keywords
