An Interaction Study Between Pifas Handset Antenna and a Human Hand-Head in Personal Communications

Abstract: Abstract-In this paper, the interaction of a planar inverted-F antennas array, mounted on a mobile handset, with a human hand-head phantom is investigated in the 1.9 GHz band. The hybrid approach involving the particle swarm optimization (PSO) and Nelder-Mead (NM) algorithm is considered to optimize the complex excitations of the adaptive array elements in a mutual coupling environment for different beamforming synthesis. Firstly, the effect of the human handhead on the handset radiation characteristics is stu… Show more

“…The optimization algorithms programmed with MATLAB will generate antenna variables which will be sent to the CST simulator for calculating the fitness value of each individual [24]. Table 1 shows the decision space for each variable and the best obtained value to achieve our goals from PSO integrated with CST Microwave Studio package and those obtained from MPSO, BSO, and CFO algorithms.…”

“…The antenna is analyzed completely using CST Microwave Studio which linked with MATLAB to optimize the antenna via Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) programs. Interchanging information between CST Microwave studio and Matlab allows the implementation of optimization algorithms not included in the Microwave studio environment itself [24]. To valid the results, the performance of the designed filter is assessed using the Finite Difference Time Domain (FDTD) program written with MATLAB.…”

“…The approach developed here is very flexible and utilizes the inherent capability of Microwave studio to execute Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) programs. The general idea of this method is that Matlab and Microwave studio can interchange information using external text files, which can be read and written by both programs [16].…”

“…In this case, the resulting return loss is optimized by the CFO algorithm with 16 probe size and 80 time steps. The optimization algorithms programmed with MATLAB will generate antenna variables which will be sent to the CST simulator for calculating the fitness value of each individual [18][19][20], Table 1 shows the decision space for each variable and the best obtained value to achieve our goals using DTO optimization. The optimized proposed antenna is simulated, fabricated and measured.…”
