Provenance of Conglomerate and Sandstone from Early Permian Shoushangou Formation in Xi Ujimqin, Inner Mongolia: Implications for Understanding Paleo‐Asian Ocean Subduction

The Daqing-pasture subduction accretion complex, along with the Diyanmiao and Huanghetu SSZ-ophiolite, with northdipping ductile shear zone, both support oceanic northward subduction in that period (Liu et al, 2011(Liu et al, , 2013Cheng et al, 2019). Hence, two opposing active continental margins exist simultaneously on the north and south sides of the PAO in the early Permian (Wang and Liu, 1986;Xiao et al, 2003).…”

“…In the Solonker Suture, a series of late Carboniferous−early Permian ophiolite mélange and subduction accretion complexes have been discovered along the Daqing-pasture−Diyanmiao−Huanghetu and Kexgten−Xar-Moron zones (Wang and Liu, 1986;Miao et al, 2007;Liu J F et al, 2011Liu J F et al, , 2013Liu J F et al, , 2016. Based on analysis of ophiolitic mé lange, multiple intra-oceanic arcs or fossil arc-trench systems were identified, such as the Mandula arc-trench system (Jian et al, 2010) and the Diyanmiao and Duerji intra-oceanic arcs (Cheng et al, 2019;Jin, 2020). In the southern Solonker Suture, gabbro, diorite, andesite and basaltic andesite occurred in the Xijiujingzi ophiolite mé lange and the Shuangjing accretion complexes.…”

Combined with petrotectonic assemblages of the Dashizhai Formation calcalkaline volcanics (basalt, andesite, dacite and rhyolite) from Barinyouqi (Guan et al, 2016) and that in the Diyanmiao subduction accretion complex (MORB-like basalt, for-arc basalt, high-Mg andesite and island arc tholeiite) (Li Y J et al, 2018;Cheng et al, 2019), it is inferred that the early Permian magmatism formed in an arc and/or immature arc tectonic setting.…”
