An Investigation of the Psychometric Properties of the Chinese Trait Emotional Intelligence Questionnaire Short Form (Chinese TEIQue-SF)

Abstract: The present study examined the psychometric properties of the Chinese version of the Trait Emotional Intelligence Questionnaire Short Form (TEIQue-SF). Analyses were performed using a sample of undergraduates ( N = 585) recruited from four universities across China. Confirmatory factor analysis of the Chinese TEIQue-SF supported the one-factor structure of trait emotional intelligence. Measurement invariance analyses were conducted across the Chinese sample and a sample of Canadian under… Show more

“…The scores of each item are summed to obtain an overall score, with higher scores indicating higher levels of self-reported EI. The Chinese version of the TEIQue-SF has shown adequate psychometric properties [36], and the Cronbach's alpha for the scale in the present study was 0.906.…”

“…The reliability and validity of TEIQue-SF have been established across different populations, [16][17][18] but not with trainees in the Arab world. Internal consistency reliabilities of the 4 factors were as follows: Cronbach a ¼ 0.70 for Emotionality, a ¼ 0.8 for Self-control, a ¼ 0.78 for Well-being, and a ¼ 0.75 for Sociability.…”

“…Although most fit indices were considered acceptable in the Chinese TEIQue-SF [χ² (2) = 12.188; CFI = .980; RMSEA = .096, 90%-CI = .049−.151; SRMR = .024], the researchers reported a lack of measurement invariance between the two samples. Moreover, alpha coefficients at the factor level were somewhat lower in the Chinese (α = .47−.82), than the Canadian sample (α = .67−.85), although both showed high reliability for global trait EI (α = .88; Feher, Yan, Saklofske, Plouffe, & Gao, 2019). The Australian (Perera, 2015) and Urdu (Shahzad, Riaz, Begum, & Khanum, 2014) adaptations of the TEIQue-SF also revealed the same high global trait EI reliability values.…”
